Hello!
Thanks for dropping by.
Our stress management, personal development, communication skills and healing service company name is "Sunflower Health" - devoted to holistic health and healing, especially the world's most ancient and popular holistic art & science of healing: "Shamanic Healing".The Goals of Holistic Healing are...
Our mission statement is "That Sunflower Within - Beauty in Wholeness".
This strange expression originated in 1999, when I was deliberating over a name for my emerging holistic health project. Maureen Cunningham and Veronica Gill recommended that I consult the ancient mystical science of "Numerology". Coming from a scientific background I was very sceptical about a "science" that was apparently so strange and irrational. However, I decided to give it a try and after a period of creative struggle came up with "That Sunflower Within - Beauty in Wholeness".
This is what Chinese and Japanese Zen Buddhists would call a "koan" - a paradoxical statement (riddle) in which the spiritual message for the unconscious mind is more important than the linguistic content for our rational conscious mind. The meaning cannot be grasped by logical thinking - only reached via lived experience.
The real meaning of a Koan cannot be grasped intellectually, nor is it the same for everyone. The Koan can only be understood by holding it in mind until the meaning unfolds in ensuing experience. Koans have been used traditionally to assist Buddhist students in their progress towards enlightenment, by encouraging intuitive experience of meaning and understanding rather than relying solely on intellectual determination of truth and meaning.
We don't have to be of Buddhist inclination to benefit from this system of wisdom and "insight cultivation2. In our modern "Western" societies much value is placed on information ("facts") and reason (logic). A valuable, broader range of "right-brain" problem-solving and "life skills" is also open to us if we draw on the resources of our intuitive and creative, unconscious mind through approaching our stress problems and health problems holistically.
Another example of a koan (adapted from Zen Buddhism - The Origins of Wisdom)
If you meet someone in the street who has the truth,
you may neither walk past in silence, nor speak
How then can you greet each other?
